Attorney Marco Mantovani provides advice and assistance with regard to all questions and issues concerning the EU Blue Card.
WHAT IS THE EU BLUE CARD
The EU Blue Card is a particular type of residence permit, governed by Article 27 quater of the Consolidated Immigration Act (Legislative Decree no. 286 of 25 July 1998), which is issued to non-EU foreign citizens who are highly qualified workers.
HIGHLY SKILLED WORKERS
Highly qualified workers are considered to be those who hold a higher education qualification issued by the competent authority in the country where it was obtained, attesting to the completion of a post-secondary education programme of at least three years' duration and a related higher professional qualification.
The higher professional qualification, certified by the country of origin, must be recognized in Italy and fall within "levels 1, 2 and 3 of the ISTAT classification of professions CP 2011″.
BLUE CARD LIFE
The EU Blue Card has a duration of 2 years if the employment relationship is of indefinite duration. If, on the other hand, the employment relationship is of fixed duration, the residence permit lasts 3 months longer than the expiry date of the employment relationship.
The EU Blue Card can be renewed if the requirements are met.
The EU Blue Card holder can be granted the status of long term resident (and is issued the EU residence permit for long term residents) after having resided legally and continuously for 5 years in the territory of the European Union by virtue of an EU Blue Card and being in possession of an EU Blue Card in Italy for at least 2 years.
